About 2 years I purchased new computer because my xp laptop did not work any more. For some reason manufacturers want to only sell win7 64bit systems. I got deal on new Dell inspiron 1545 dual core processor. So I figured I just see what the advantages were of 64bit system. I don't really see that many.

Being able to use more than 4GB of RAM without the hassles of things like Physical Addess Extension (PAE) is one (_the_) advantage of using the 64-bit version of Windows.

And with current RAM prices, I don't see why anyone should go for less than 8 GB in a new machine.

If you have software that doesn't run under 64-bit Windows, try the professional edition of Windows 7, it comes with a licensed copy of XP for virtualization.
