Microsoft is pushing 64-bit machines for a simple reason.

Their OS is very bloated. They can't get 32-bit machines to work well, since 4GB doesn't leave much memory for any applications after Windows have taken its share.

every computer manufcturer is trying to get a "green" label attached to their products, then comes Microsoft and tells them to add power consumption to support their bloated OS.

it is about time the environmentalists get on Microsofts case
