#178226 - Dislike doesn't mean a product is worth zero
Responding to: ???'s previous message
See it like this.

If I own a $10,000 car - will that make a used car with a sell price of $1,000 have a perceived value of $0.01?
And if I manage to get a $100,000 car - will now the $10,000 car suddenly get a perceived value of $0.01?
The world isn't black or white. If you don't like a specific feature of a product, then the value of that product will not automatically reach zero. Note that I said "like". If a product can't at all do the main task then the value may be zero. But if it is just clunky, the value does not reach zero. A slow compiler is still a compiler (but with less perceived value). A compiler producing inefficient code is still a compiler (but with less perceived value). A compiler that can't compile at all, can be considered not to be a compiler, and get a perceived value of zero. Richard have grossly failed to show that Eagle-CAD can't be used at all. Just that some parts of it are clumsy or missing features.

If you buy a $1500 program and don't like it, you may decide that it isn't worth the money. But if you are honest with yourself, you would then have to figure out a new value. Maybe it delivers enough functionality that $500 would have been a reasonable price. But going all the way to $0.01 is no longer a question of adjusting the value. It's just a question of doing a mental division by zero, since the program is most definitely not unusable.

A lot of people likes to stay with MS-DOS versions of their CAD software just because the Windows version is not always good. May consume more memory (and possibly support larger jobs) but may at the same time switch the user interface in ways that is reducing the usability of the program. Besides the requirements for a faster computer.

It is a well known fact that there are no "best" processor. And no "best" CAD software. Different needs and different mentalities will mean different software is better or worse choise to use. But when grown up people are having a debate, then the arguments should also be grown up. 10-year-olds regularly go full black-or-white. If something isn't "the best", then it's totally unusable. Should a debate on a professional forum follow that logic - what you don't like is worth zero?

Whatever happened to your principle...            01/01/70 00:00
Isn't this about free PCB software?            01/01/70 00:00
It was about a certain *specific* software            01/01/70 00:00
Perhaps, but my point was ...            01/01/70 00:00
But subject line seems to indicate all free software            01/01/70 00:00
         I'm just a little p*ssed off ... since it cost $1500 ...            01/01/70 00:00
