I don't think he was confusing IIRC as an alternate abbreviation for IIC but instead showing how it could be used in a very confusing sentence. Reading IIRC as "If I Recall Correctly" in the above sentence makes sense. I think your post proved Jon's point quite well, abbreviaitons for non-technical terms just often lead to confusion.
