I don't necessarily like the abbreviations, I've been stumped by more than a couple, e.g. IANAL, I couldn't figure out why anyone would say "I Anal". I do remember mentioning before that I thought those abbreviations were comparable to SMS, but after an hour of searching with google I couldn't find the post. I just thought it would be worth mentioning the few of very many that are used here regularly, although I agree with Kai.
An example: "IIC, IIRC is the same as I2C" - is that confusing or what? Erik Malund said:
I'm kind of aginst this. How does these abbreviations harmonize with the forum rule "no SMS" e.g. LOL is SMS usage. is it logical to state LOL = laughing out loud; ur = an insult to the reader? Erik http://8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=148380 I don't know, you tell me. Now Richard has gone off topic with a SMS/naughty word filter. I played with some forum software with a filter, and the first thing that happened was a guy registered for it and his last name was Dick, the software changed it to "private" and he couldn't log on. I imagine Peter would produce the same results. I think it will be quite the hassle. Jon By the way, is there any way to refine the google search to just make its matches from posts instead of the entire threads? |
