#151175 - SMS vs abbreviations Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I was also thinking of adding a section for the common abbreviations that some use, like these Erik Malund said:
I'm kind of aginst this. Me too, but simply because I think it'd be easier to just give them a link to those kinds of abbreviations. I think there is value in the NOOB guide being short and concise. It's hard enough to get people to read rules and FAQs--let's not make it harder by needlessly lengthening things. How does these abbreviations harmonize with the forum rule "no SMS" e.g. LOL is SMS usage.
is it logical to state LOL = laughing out loud; ur = an insult to the reader? I don't think there's an inconsistency. I most definitely do not put "LOL" (preferably capitalized) or "IANAL" in the same group as "ur" or "4u", etc. One group is abbreviations, the other is word-mangling SMS. The distinction might be lost on precisely those that use SMS, though. Regards, Craig Steiner |
