#146390 - EDIF? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
EDIF is a reasonable standard for netlists. So was the old Tango format.
But, as Richard points out, there's no standard for drawing symbols. There's also no standard for libraries (of symbols or of footprints), and each layout package has its own formats. The people who are working on gEDA have some good ideas about how to proceed with open schematic and layout formats. I like how all of the files (schematics, libraries, layouts) are all plain text. But IMHO it's not ready for prime time, at least when compared to the features of commercial EDA software. Plus it broke when I upgraded my Mac from OS X 10.4 to 10.5 and now it won't rebuild. -a |
