Connect an electrolytic capacitor of 47µF/16V directly at input of LP2950. You can put a 100n/X7R ceramics in parallel. But avoid tantals here!

the quote above is something I have adhered to "appnote based" but this brings up a thought I have had many times when doing this.

What differes a tantal from an electrolytic when a ceramic 100 nF is in parallel?
