#129321 - I doubt this..... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I think the best results can be expected by using an external watchdog and external brown-out detection. I doubt this, companies like Microchip, Atmel(AVR), Silabs have all incorpated internal watchdog and internal brown out detectors, surely these companies must have done a lot of research to ensure that the internal mode will equal to external mode if not better. So, I nearly always use the MAX1232 Every product I have shipped out with the 8051 family (without the internal mode) has always gone out with the xx1232 chip, and I think because of this I have never had any of my products working eraticaly. I have recently begun to use the Renesas (Hitachi+Mitsubishi) R8C/Tiny series microcontrollers, while they do not seem have the fancy features of a Silabs microcontroller, they do seem to be made robustly, with more attention to clock failures etc. They also have internal programmable brownout and internal watchdog, these are also made for the automotive market, could it not be that the internal watchdog and brownout could be as reliable as the externel ones?
