When I ran the maintenance department in a photo lab about 1974 we had some kodak printers that used special reed relays. Some had a small magnet on the reed to reduce contact bounce. If I recall correctly the coil was reverse pulsed to drop the contact. Others had an auxilliary hold winding in series with the contacts and used circuit current to maintain closure.
