I cannot believe that any USB devices would get very far. Likewise, any 32kB or 64kB chip is a bit pointless.
the SILabs 'crippled' uVision that comes with the devkits a) has a 4k limit b) some 'packages' (I believe USB is one of them) 'live' outside the 4k limit in the "SILabs world" I suppose that the simple answer is to only use devices where the Manufacturers offer tools. the choice is a) stick with a proprietary architecture and be at the mercy of the manufacturer re availability. What would you do right now if the chip family your design used is discontinued b) use a widespread architecture ('51, ARM) pay for the tools and be (relatively) chip manufacturer independent. Also the likelyhood of finding a perfect fit to your app is far greater. No manufacturer in his right mind would provide free unlimited tools for ARM or '51 they would be easily useable for the competitions products. anyhow, if you want to use the '51 and not pay for the tools there is always SDCC Erik |
