ISP Programmer
there is no such thing, you either do ISP or use a programmer. Erik What would you call the 'hardware box' that provides a connection to the PC and connects to the SPI interface on your pcb? Likewise a JLINK or ULINK device? Ok, so you can say "Device that can perform ISP on Atmel AT89Sxx chips" Do you have to list some 100s of chip device numbers? How would describe those multi-function HVPP programmers? They often have multiple interfaces to connect to ISP capable chips. In my opinion, the distinction is "does the punter require some special hardware to perform ISP?" A USB cable is available in her local WalMart" A JTAG i/f or SPI i/f is special hardware not available in WalMart. I will continue to call this special hardware a "Programmer" The punter really just wants a shopping list, not a pedantic argument. David. |
