I don't know what good learning Verilog will do in Europe? Has anyone ever used it over here? My impression is that everyone uses VHDL here.

About the syntax: Verilog has some constructs that seem nicer to my eyes, but both are full of weird quirks. A well designed language to replace them both is long overdue IMHO.
