SIL Resistor Networks like that are very, very commonly used for pull-ups; so it looks like people do know about it - you are the one that doesn't!

If you just wanted a single, discrete resistor, why would you ask specifically for a "pullup" resistor?
What would be special about a discrete resistor specifically designed as a pullup? How would it differ from any other resistor? What would stop it being used in any other application?

This type of SIL Resistor Network, on the other hand, is rather specially applicable as a pullup (or, rather, a group of pullups):



Therefore, when you ask specifically for a "pullup", I don't think it's entirely unreasonable if you're offered one of these!
