Many IC test sockets have the solder points hidden under the socket, making them impossible or almost impossible to hand-solder. They are not intended to make it easier to solder a chip, but to make it easy to switch between different chips.
Good for implementing a programmer, or for removing a flash and put in a programmer, or for switching between different variants from a processor family. Edit: Some test sockets I have been using have hade a price that was higher than a dev-kit. Just for the socket. |
