As a student, it's always worth speaking nicely to the companies themselves or their distributors to see if you can blag some free samples - Some have specific educational programmes for this kind of thing.

The manufacturer's websites will have listings of their local offices & distributors.

Obviously, you can't demand anything - you need to ask very nicely, and present yourself as a worthwhile student working on a worthwhile project...
