I agree with Andy - get a development board so you can quickly start working on your main technical hurdles. Development of a custom board could continue in parallel.
If you are new to microcontrollers and new to surface mount soldering, and you get the device soldered but it doesn't work, how will you know if it is the soldering or a misunderstanding with using/wiring the microcontroller? Andy |
