#167872 - I would definitely look at multiple controllers Responding to: ???'s previous message |

f you consider for redesign another way is to decentalize the cabling. Yes, I think I would go for multiple controllers. With cheap controllers available, you can do a lot of nice things with them. I would probably also look for a solution where a master controller can stream new firmware to the slave controllers, allowing a simple update of the system firmware. If you want a 19" cabinet, I would place one controller on each board. Having everything on the same backplane helps greatly with the power to the individual boards. The amount of I/O on each board would be totally controlled by what contacts you use - how much board space each contact point requires at the front of the board. You could use high-density connectors and let multiple cables expand to screw-connector plints externally. If distributing the electronics instead of keeping everything in the 19" box, I would think that at least all the wireless options would be forbidden for an alarm system other than as an optional secondary carrier solution for redundancy. |
