#167435 - "Most coders" Responding to: ???'s previous message |

Most coders don't care that their employer/client has to buy the next-larger MCU because he didnt want to whittle down his work product. They don't care because the cost isn't that large and its unlikely to be noticed. When I worked for a small pro-audio company, one of the very first things discussed when starting a new product design was the bill-of-materials cost, which was further broken down into mechanical and electronic sections. IOW, we had a cost target to meet. So to say that the firmware guy didn't care is absurd, because he was involved in the discussion. However, I consider it unconscionable to ask one's client to buy an MCU with 64KB of code space on-chip when, with a little extra effort, the code size could fit in 32 KB, as is often the case when one uses a HLL and the associated libraries. And do you really have any evidence that "most coders" do this? -a |
