It took a long time to wring the complete, real Requirement from the OP - At the time Erik made the suggestion, I don't think the requirements were at all clear.

Now that the requirements are clear(er), you're possibly right - but I don't see how an SiLabs 8051-derivate is really any less "capable of providing the interface to the 8243's nor ... the necessayr number of I/O's" than any other 8051-derivative?
