#167446 - You clearly haven't though about it! Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Keep in mind that if it's 32767 bytes in size, it fits in 32K, while if it's 32769, it doesn't.
I'd refer you to the comments by Steve and Jez, for starters. Clearly they just want to get in, get paid, and get out, and devil take the hindmost. Do you really think, based on what they've written, that they care about an extra $3 in the BOM? I can recall a number of cases in which the coders decided they wanted an extra 500% of RAM and 2500% of processing bandwidth (faster, fancier processor). We fired 'em and had the hardware guys do it in ASM. Instead of requiring more RAM and MORE speed, we got by with half the speed and 1/4 the RAM. It didn't save anything, but it didn't cost extra, and we didn't have to buy that multi-k-buck compiler. The hardware guys did it in 10 days, though the guys we fired wanted 90. It wouldn't have hurt ... much ... to use the compiler, since they're still shipping hundreds of units per week after two years. RE |
