But, in the specific example that I cited, the poster claims not to have noticed that there was a 'Preview' button - so, if there had been no option, he couldn't have chosen the wrong one!

In the end, a mandatory preview will just hurt the people who write unformatted text that don't contain anything requiring a preview.

I don't think there's ever a case where a preview is of no value at all: I often see typos, etc, that I didn't notice in the message-entry form.

Thus I think that a mandatory preview doesn't actually hurt anyone, but does at least add the possibility that some might benefit.

it is easier to read the preview text than the fixed-pitch courier used in the edit box.
