He doesn't have to apply external memory
by your posts he does "if he wants to use that chip, why not let him do it" I totally agree with you, that he should start SIMPLE but learning to use JTAG is probably no easier than learning to use a monitor. partially agree, JTAG just a bit simpler - HOWEVER, using a monotor (almost) precludes using the eval limited to 2k Since he's determined to use those DIL-40 packaged parts I have seen no such statement Then you should have read all his posts, including the earlier thread. It will be a bit cheaper, though, to use a DS89C450 sample, a packaged oscillator (rather than a crystal, so he can't miswire or otherwise commit error on the oscillator), and a MAX232A will let him start SIMPLE than by buying SiLabs hardware and learning to operate it, and to operate the JTAG tool set.
you can't have it from both sides of the mouth "learning to use JTAG is probably no easier than learning to use a monitor" and now SUDDENLY a montor is easy. I challenge you to tell me where it is more difficult to "buying SiLabs hardware and learning to operate it" than to do the same with Dallas hardware. Erik |
