a monitor can not set a breakpoint without overhead. A JTAG or ICE does all in hardware and thus no overhead.

My objection to your original post was not that you suggested a monitor, but that you suggested a monitor as a must without qualifying that better (OK, to make you happy other) solutions exist. When you get on you "antiques are groovy" bandwaggon you spew out statements that may very well be correct when working with antiques but you never qualify them "when working with anitques ..."

There are readers of this forum that may take e.g. your statement about a monitor as global truth and install a monotor in a JTAG chip.
