I know it is ridiculous. The the data sheet for Oliver's MCU specifically says that the I2C controller does not support repeated start sequences in Master mode. Strange thing is that there is a status bit in one of the peripheral registers that supposedly reports the detection of repeated start sequence when in the Slave mode.

I really wonder what planet the chip designers were on when they conjured up the IP for this puppy. The chip design folks clearly have not had real world experience interfacing to a variety of I2C devices.
