Guys, thanks for your questions.

I'm only running at 100kHz, and the SDA and SCL tracks are only about 2cm long. I've tried 10k pullups and 2k7 pullups. I've captured the traces at higher speed, so I can say that the hold time is 0 nsec give or take 20 nsec. My suspicion is now that the capacitance of the bus analyser must be significant, so I will try adding some capacitance.

The chip manufacturer hasn't got back to me yet :(
