There are presently a couple or three low-cost used programmers on eBay. Now, I haven't verified that they're complete, i.e. that they have the necessary software, interface card, etc. It's worth noting that the typical "universal" programmer of the early '90's required an ISA board in the computer as well as a cable with which to connect the programmer to that board, AND a considerable suite of software to drive it. Power came from the PC, and this whole scheme falls apart if you have only a modern PC.
These are all things to think about in making this choice. There are a few USB-interfaced programmers of this type, but they're generally not so cheap. If your goal is to build a circuit centered around an 8748, you've little choice. If your goal is to use any of those old programmable parts, choice is limited. If your goal is to build circuits with parts you already have, that has to be part of your decision. RE |
