YES

The most important thing I can say is that if one has to spend some money to gain the tools and/or equipment needed to learn something then is only makes sense to spend that money in a way that leaves your learning experience most strongly aimed at where you can apply that out in the open world.

If one comes to a company to build an embedded MCU project today you will not likely be making a project with an MCU setup with an external EPROM (8K or 16K bytes) an an external 32K byte SRAM.
