#177057 - Please Describe the Situation...
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Nathan:
Please describe the current situation surrounding your desire to try to use the W83C43?

1) Do you have a couple of these parts and you wanted to "play" with them to learn?

2) Did you find a small inventory of these parts and got the idea to use them up for some small run product of some sort?

3) Are you setting out to build a product of some sort that requires a mouse or a keyboard?

If your scenario falls in line with either 2) or 3) above then stop even trying to consider the use of these parts. There are oogles of much better alternatives available. One has already be proposed which is direct connection of the PS/2 keyboard interface to the MCU.

If your situation is similar to 1) above then by all means go ahead and experiment and play around. This part can be connected to the external bus interface of a typical 8051/8052. You will however be confined to using it with an MCU that operates with a Vcc of 5VDC as this PS/2 chip must be used at 5VDC. Trying to interface this 5V part to a 3.3V MCU will just not be worth the effort considering the level translators and interface buffers that would be required. Please also consider that application of this device is kind of a pain due to need for supplied crystal or timing source and its big old style package.

If it were me I'd take one of the parts and save it for your personal museum and trash or recycle the rest.
