Just because it can be done doesn't mean that it has to be done!

I would guess that those actually running their development environment on the Target are in a minority - probably a very small minority.

It is prefectly feasible (and, I think, common) to follow the traditional "cross-development" route - and keep the target lean-and-mean and free of the additional encumberances required only to host a development environment.

To you - 2p.
