A 0.1% change of output voltage, which is only 5mV for a 5V supply, for an input voltage range from 10V to 40V is too much for you? Are you sure it was the LM2674 you tested? Please note, I didn't recommend the older LM2574, but the modern LM2674, using ultra high efficient DMOS-switch technology.
