#155360 - depends on the circumstances Responding to: ???'s previous message |

Why redesign? The device clearly performed well enough under "normal" conditions, whatever it is. It was not a "normal" thing to sweep it with a powerful microwave transmitter from time to time.
If you made an industrial thingy that performed well in the lab but could not perform on the industrial floor would you say "Why redesign?". Now this again depends on the circumstances. It may very well be a 100% OK design, and a single strong source of excessive interference nearby, and the factory manager might quite well be willing to remove the cause, especially if you offer some help in form of guidelines. Or, as I said (because I was told by the EMI instructor that this IS an option), you might quite well point out in a clause in the contract, that in case of troubles an independent EMI consultant shall perform floor measurements to determine who's the culprit. And you still might want to have the "extinguisher" at hand, at least as an indirect proof that there WAS something wrong on the floor. The whole watchdog controversy stems mainly from the wide variety of circumstances, the fact that the watchdog is not universally harmless, is not a panacea, and there is no one size fits all... JW |
