5. I rather like the Dallas 89C4x0 parts because they have the serial-based ISP which avoids a lot of headaches with the Atmel parts.
you could go with the NXP/Atmel 89x51xx2 parts which have UART ISP.

The P89V51Rx2 is, probably, the easiest ISP there is, if you discount JTAG ISP.

for non-SILabs, I rather like the devboards from Phytec.
