#149580 - simple is still good.... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Craig, supplying a design that uses DIP devices in sockets is still a very practical thing to do for people who may not have the skill to build or repair the small stuff.
We still make and sell a number of our SBC-1 boards, which is similar to your SBC as far as using it for a learning tool, and we have not had any problems obtaining components, (though this may change in 10 years or so.) (The main reason it still sells OK is that it has a lot of I/O and can interface to Opto-22 modules like a PLC. If it didn't have that I'm sure it would no longer sell very well.) http://www.industrologic.com/sbcdesc.htm Speaking of books: http://www.industrologic.com/sbcbdesc.htm Maybe you can come up with a design that is even simpler, using parts that you know will still be around. Also, if a particular size RAM is an issue you might advertise it with a smaller RAM so you can install a bigger one if that is all that is available. |
