#127287 - well, for the (in)famous "universal board" Responding to: ???'s previous message |
This whole thread has not ever touched on any new-product development issues, though, again, it's not given that it would be a crime. If the "new" 8255 were to be fast enough and also have enough output current, the device would be suitable for many tasks. Would it be desirable, well, that's a matter of taste, I guess.
Such a "new 8255" should not just be a faster facsimile, it should be an improved chip some of the ideas of which I outlined here: http://www.8052.com/forumchat/read.phtml?id=127182. Well, for the (in)famous "universal board" such a chip would be 'desirable' the question here is if there is enough of a market. However, I do see devboards becoming more and more popular (unfortunately, in this respect, in qty 1 per order) simply because of the shrinking of the chips. Which beginner want to mangle with quartermillimeter pin spacing? With ROHS the availability of "amateur chips" (DIL) is becoming more and more limited. Also, very few, if any, truly modern chips come in DIL. As to 'desirability' of a "universal chip" I see none in industrial applications, there "absolute logic" will always rule. Erik |
