what on earth does 'upgrades' have to do with using 3V3 for development especially such that include a FPGA/CPLD (see the origin of this subtopic your post http://www.8052.com/forumchat/read.phtml?id=127242 that triggered http://www.8052.com/forumchat/read.phtml?id=127253 ). The 3V3 issue was triggered by FPGA/CPLD which I doubt you add with an 'upgrade' you yourself note the reason as "without a complete board respin".
