There is a problem with FPGA's .... I know of no available FPGA's that still have 5-volt outputs,

Yes, I 'refused' to use 3V3 till some time ago, so I am as guilty as the rest of the 5V clingers. That I have 'reformed' does not make me free of 'guilt'

However, after I got dragged, kicking and screaming, to 3V3 I found that it was no, nada, zero, none, null, not a problem.

Technology marches on, get with it or be lost at the roadside.

I have seen no new 5V uCs released but a few anachronisms in the last several years.
