The two markets are different. I don't think anyone's advocating the use of the 8255, no matter how evolved, in a new application, though I personally don't see that as a crime. Supply chain management issues will limit the likelihood of that.
This whole thread has not ever touched on any new-product development issues, though, again, it's not given that it would be a crime. If the "new" 8255 were to be fast enough and also have enough output current, the device would be suitable for many tasks. Would it be desirable, well, that's a matter of taste, I guess. RE |
