We have our parts made by a supplier who also supplies the common parts (resistors, capacitors) - simply because he has the machines loaded with the reels already, using the same parts for all their clients. The 78M05 falls into this cathegory - we can't simply use ours, even if would like to select them it would need repackaging into the tape&reel - besides, what to do with the rejects? Unfortunately, we manufacture in such batches (~100), where it is already too complicated to make things individually, yet the manufacturer/supplier has no incentive to provide us the better/selected etc. parts.
