What you have drawn is a capacitor power supply. The big disadvantage is, that the caps C1 act as a short circuit during surges! So, the resistors R1 must be able to withstand very high currents. Critical currents will also flow during every first connection to mains voltage, when the caps C1 are still uncharged.
The caps C1 must be reliable X2-caps, which waste a lot of space. Kai Klaas |
