Please do not get agitated by my previous post. My intention was to point out the importance of Safety.

The abbreviation "Trafo" refers to "TransFormer" and i haven't invented it, its been used on all electronics forums worldwide and its a accepted abbreviation and complies to "Netiquette" if you don't want to accept it then you may not use the terms like SMPS, DC, AC in the replies and you'll have to refer to these terms as "Switching Mode Power Supply", "Direct Current" etc. I heard that name "Trafo" for the first time...in my 20 years of my experience. So had a hard time to put the words togather. I have never heard this name on 8052.com, edaboard.com, 8051projects.com....since 2003. I accept, that I do not visit these sites daily, but atleast 2 times a week. Arun Kumar V said:
Kiran said: Oh, so you want to Electricute someone, and then learn from it...Good. I've been in the electronics field since 15 years and have reasonable understanding about safety issues, when was the last time you /your client/technician got electrocuted ? How many headlines appear daily in news paper mentioning deaths due to electrocution and compare it with death toll in road mishaps. Oh...accidents like these do not appear in newspapers...they appear in law suits. And I have seen a medium range company gone down because of such an incident. This news did NOT appear in any newspaper. If you feel confident, then please go ahead with your design. I learnt about Importance to safety on 8052.com. So I never ever compromised on safety of user, engineers, technicians, etc. Even if my product was costly than the others. I have lost customers for this reason. But I do not like to work with people who do not care for safety. Arun Kumar V said:
so far in this forum no member has claimed that he has tried the direct Mains ZCD experiment with 8051/2, So how will one know its result unless he tries it. And do you mean to say that anybody who tries this out "will" definitely Die ? I had already mentioned about an application note from Philips for LPC76x (it is of MCS51 family). Arun Kumar V said:
Cost of an Opto is definitely an issue if one is producing volumes in thousands. Yes, but what about safety ? Ahhh.. I do remember some newspaper clippings (which I have read over the years) about people being electricuted by touching Electric toasters, Electric Iron, etc...Well, that was entirely the fault of the person who died. And the designer of the product is not to be blamed at all for such incidents. Strange isn't it ? |
