That's true of any modem - irrespective of the type of interface that it presents (USB, RS232, or whatever)

so theres a lot of other apps that can be developed with the hsdpa

Again, that has nothing to do with whether it's USB or RS232 or whatever.

But being USB is a major obstacle to working with an 8051!

And, How many of those applications will be suitable for implementation on an 8051?

You will probably need an IP stack...
