#189138 - Some USB adapters only "sort-of" work ... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The reason I wanted to use PS2 is precisely because my KVM switch uses PS/2. I've got to say that the USB hardware I've acquired seldom is fully functional, i.e. seldom does everything it's supposed to do. Several USB printers only sort-of work, my USB inspection microscope only sort-of works, and the several USB and Ethernet interfaced printers I have work great with Ethernet, but frequenly fall down via USB.
I know I represent only a small sample, since I have only about 25 printers, and since the two USB keyboards and 3 USB mice I have actually do work quite well, but I've not been led to believe that USB is all it claims to be. It's certainly true that many applications that "talk" through a parallel port won't work when the parallel port is provided via USB. There were, at one time, quite a number of complaints that MCU programmers interfaced via the serial port worked fine, but didn't work when a USB-generated serial port was used. Similar statements appeared regarding the USB-adapted parallel ports. Aside from that, Windows often takes a multi-second vacation while processing USB transfers. What's up with all that? RE |
