So I thought it'd be fine to just buy a new mouse (USB, of course) and use it - Wrong!!

It seems that not all mice work with these USB-to-PS/2 adaptors; it looks like the mouse must actually be able to detect and switch to "PS/2" mode - and modern mice no longer have that feature.

I did manage to find a mouse that specifically stated USB & PS/2 operation - but there were only about 2 out of 2 dozen.
