Would it really be that expensive to accomplish? I am fully ignorant of this "Sigma" thingy that you refer to, but I gather it's whatever others were talking about trying to measure the tension in the chain or something. In the meantime, albeit speaking from the bliss of that ignorance, it seems that someone above in this thread suggested using a wireless transmitter to send the pedal strain gauge data back to a main unit on the bicycle frame. Would such an approach really be that expensive? It seems to me that it could be accomplished quite handily. It's not like the transmitter would have to have any range to speak of.
