So the only issue is amount of power for reading the strain sensor with suitable precision and the power for the data link. And both the above questions is affected by how often the sensor is read, and how often the radio needs to report a computed value. The sensor would need to be read a number of times for every revolution since no cyclist can drive the pedals perfectly even. The Polar power meter makes use of the cadence sensor to separate readings for left and right leg, so it can report if there is an imbalance.
