I've found the things remarkably easy to solder if (a) the board has soldermask, (b) one uses enough flux, and (c) one subsequently cleans up the bridges and excess solder of other sorts with solder wick. It takes only a few minutes and, with enough (but not too much) heat, the solder cleans up easily without removing the required solder on the pads. I've even used the solder sucker built into my solder station to remove the excess without any ill effect on the solder joints.
