Remember: the 8051 was originally an actual chip - so "clone" makers had something to be compatible with.
ARM themselves do not make any chips at all - they just license the IP to their customers for them to make into chips. Thus there is no "standard" ARM pinout with which manufacturers could be compatible. Some manufacturers of ARM-based chips do claim pin compatibility within their own chip families (thinking of STM32 here) - but I'm not aware of any claims of pin-compatibility between different manufacturers. |
