Hi Stefan,

Don't know of any ARM variants that are necessarily pin-for-pin compatible with the 51, but the Nuvoton 'NuMicro M051' (in the 48-pin QFP) ARM variants appear to have the same pin compliment as a vanilla 8051, so it would appear one could almost simply drop it into just about any schematic containing a classic-pinout 8051. Nuvoton seem to have 8051 users very much in mind with this puppy:
