#176732 - USB has provisions for 1.8A from charger ports Responding to: ???'s previous message |
It is more fun than that.
USB has been established as "the" way to power mobile equipment. There are huge number of flashlights, battery chargers etc drawing power from the USB connector. There are special wall sockets combining mains power and USB connectors, to allow you to power your mobile phone similarly to how you power your laptop. But the USB standard has been extended to also include Charger Ports, in which case a device can draw up to 1.8A from the port. This is used by the new mobile phone charging standard, where the phones are charged using a Micro-USB connector. 5V/500mA is only 2.5W, and way less than a normal mobile phone requires for a reasonably fast recharge.
